Ling & Louie’s Teammate Wins at 2017 Foodist Awards

“At the heart of it all, we are a human resources company. Our people separate our restaurants from the pack.”

– Randy Schoch, CEO Ling & Louie’s Asian Bar and Grill

On Thursday, October 19th, 2017, Head Server and Trainer, Sherry Dierauer, received a prestigious award at the Foodist Awards in Arizona. Sherry, team member at Ling & Louie’s Asian Bar and Grill in Scottsdale, received the award for “Best Restaurant Employee.” She beat out finalists from other highly acclaimed restaurants throughout Arizona.

Sherry, who started with Ling & Louie’s Asian Bar and Grill in 2008, has worked passionately to create the warm and inviting atmosphere for guests that CEO Randy Schoch envisioned years ago when developing the concept. Her hard work and dedication has helped mold the restaurant’s service standards for years. Her warm personality and great care for hospitality has allowed her to create long-lasting relationships with her teammates and guests alike. Upon receiving the award, Sherry thanked both her co-workers and guests for affording her the opportunity to win the Foodist Award.

“We have always instilled a sense of individuality in our teammates,” says Greg Smith, Director of Operations for Ling & Louie’s. “Sherry has gone above and beyond to embrace that and let her personality shine. She understands what true hospitality is and is a great example of what we love to see from all Desert Island employees.”

The Foodist Awards is an annual event hosted by the Arizona Restaurant Association honoring the best tastes, faces and places in Arizona food and beverage. The event, hosted at Young’s Market Company, brought together the best of Arizona’s food and beverage scene for a fun-filled evening.

We at Ling & Louie’s would like to send a big congratulations to Sherry and all of the award winners at this year’s Foodist Awards!

Celebrate Woktober at Ling & Louie’s!

You already know that Ling & Louie’s is not for boring people. And when it comes to celebrating Octoberfest — or as we like to call it, Woktober — there’s no exception!

We’re not going to bore you with all of the traditional foods you’ve come to expect. Instead, we want you to celebrate with us the wonderful world of wok cooking with us! Enjoy dishes from all around the wok with our special limited time menu.

For starters, we have Ahi Lettuce Wraps! Why settle for plain old chicken lettuce wraps when you can enjoy fresh ahi wok’d with onions, water chestnuts, cilantro and Thai basil in a light soy and topped with pineapple salsa. Or what about the Kung POW! Calamari? Crispy calamari is wok’d and is served with snap peas, red bell peppers, Thai basil and roasted peanuts in a spicy red chili-soy.

For entrees, it’s curry all the way!  Our Sizzling Red Curry Pork features a spicy sauce for the marinated pork tenderloin. With our Thai Massaman Curry dish, you can choose from several meats. We promise this dish will tantalize your taste buds! We’re also featuring Evil Jungle Prince and Evil Jungle Princess dishes. Our Prince entree features green curry-coconut sauce and Ling’s Evil Jungle Princess dish is wok’d with our signature peanut-red curry sauce.

To top it all off, try our Bacon-Bourbon Cookie Sandwich that comes with fresh baked chocolate chip cookies topped with wok-caramelized bananas, Bourbon glaze, and vanilla bean ice cream with crumbled bacon on top. Yum!

It’s a menu where Modern Asian meets American Comfort. You just simply can’t go wrong!

The Japanese Whisky Craze

When most people walk into a bar with the thought of ordering whisky, their minds are usually set on a spirit from the US or Europe. However, these days, Japan is making a big play for the modern whisky drinker’s piece of mind.

Whisky production began in Japan around 1870, with the first commercially produced whisky debuting in 1924. There are two historic figures  who influenced the whisky industry in Japan: Shinjiro Torii and Masataka Taketsuru.

Torii founded Kotobukiya, which would eventually become Suntory. Taketsuru studied the art of distilling in Scotland and brought his knowledge back to Japan, where he was hired by Torii as a distillery executive. Torii established the now-famous Yamazaki distillery, near Kyoto, with the help of Taketsuru. In 1934, Taketsuru left Kotobukiya to form his own distilling company, now known as Nikka, in Hokkaido.

Japanese whiskies began earning critical acclaim in the early 2001 when Nikka’s 10-year Yoichi Single Malt was awarded “Best of the Best” at Whisky Magazine’s annual awards. Since then, Japanese whiskies have continued to garner international attention and acclaim.

As of 2011, there were nine active whisky distilleries throughout Japan. Included in these are the highly acclaimed Yamazaki and Hakushu distilleries (owned by Suntory), Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries (owned by Nikka), Shinshu distillery and White Oak distillery.

You can enjoy many of the acclaimed whiskies from these distilleries at Ling & Louie’s Asian Bar and Grill. Each location offers a different selection of Japanese whiskies that you can enjoy served in one of four different ways.

And if you’re really looking for a treat, our Scottsdale location will be hosting a special Japanese Whisky Pairing Dinner on Thursday, September 21st, 2017! This special 4-course dinner will pair whiskies from different Japanese distilleries to highlight the diversity and uniqueness of some of the world’s finest whiskies. Seating for this event is limited, so call 480-767-5464 to make your reservations today!

Quench Your Thirst with us During National Whiskey Month

Historically, we’ve celebrated National Bourbon Month in September. This year, we’re expanding to all types of Whiskey!

We’re not just talking drinks, either. We have an amazing limited time only menu where we’re adding a dose of Whiskey to Ling’s Modern Asian cuisine. There’s no way you can be bored with our chefs regularly creating new and exciting dishes for you to enjoy!

Did you know that Whiskey is our country’s most popular spirit? At Ling & Louie’s Asian Bar and Grill, we want you to taste Whiskey in a whole new way with our “Asian Fusion” inspired dishes.

Our whiskey-infused appetizers are a great introduction to this featured menu. Our Jalapeño Yellowtail Roll will be a sushi experience unlike any other you’ve had. This delicious roll is topped with spicy whiskey-garlic sauce. The Whiskey BBQ Flatbread appetizer features whiskey-hoisin BBQ sauce, candied bacon and blackened chicken. Either dish is a fantastic way to start your meal!

For the main course, why not try our delicious Bourbon-Glazed Pork Sliders or our Wokin’ Whiskey Stir-Fry that features vegetables in a spicy whiskey-garlic sauce. You have an option of adding crispy chicken, shrimp or scallops. We’re also serving Sizzling Whiskey Scallops & Steak in a whiskey-infused soy sauce.

Of course, you know that Ling & Louie’s also has an unbelievable cocktail selection that we’re always reinventing. We have a great variety of classic cocktails combined with our new, unique ones.

This year, we’re featuring highly acclaimed whiskeys from as far East as Japan to as far West as Kentucky! We have crafted amazing cocktails to meet all tastes. Our Whiskey Month cocktail menu features lighter cocktails like the Nikka Sour and Bee’s Sting, both made with Japanese whiskeys and featuring lighter citrus notes for someone looking for a refreshing cocktail. For the serious whiskey drinkers, we have our High Line Harmony, an elegant version of a Manhattan, featuring Hibiki ‘Japanese Harmony’ Whisky, or Louie’s Old Fashioned, with Louie’s very own recipe!

No dinner would be complete without dessert. You must try our Bourbon-Maple Creme Brulee that’s topped with Bourbon-poached apples.

Join Us For a Not So Boring Business Lunch!

Do you have the summer doldrums? Do you need a pick-me-up from the long day at the office? Whether it’s a business meeting or just an excuse to get out-of-the-office, Ling & Louie’s can spruce up your day with an amazing lunch that’ll be sure to tantalize your taste buds!

Our menu has so many healthy and light choices for the hot summer months, you won’t feel wasted heading back to work. For example, on the appetizer menu, our Black Orchid Ahi melts in your mouth. It’s served blackened over Asian slaw and a spicy soy mustard. Our Lettuce Wraps are also a light option. They come with marinated chicken wok’d with water chestnuts, onion and Thai basil.

We also have some new Sumo Rolls you might want to check out. Think of it as a cross between a sushi roll and burrito. Our Kickin’ Kai-bi Sumo Roll comes with wok’d shrimp, pineapple salsa, spinach and a sweet Korean glaze, wrapped with seasoned rice and soy paper. You can never accuse us of being boring!

We have a great variety of soups and salads, too, including the Long Life Chicken & Rice Soup along with the Chopstick Chicken Salad. On our sizzling platters, we feature Shanghai Shrimp and Scallops and Surf & Turf, both served with delicious vegetables. Of course, we feature many options from the wok, as well.

Don’t wait any longer. Take a break from work, schedule that business meeting or just come in yourself and let us spice up your day!

Celebrate Your Administrative Professionals at Ling & Louie’s!

What would we do without administrative professionals? They’re a valuable part of our business. Often, though, they don’t get the recognition they deserve.

Ling decided it was time to celebrate the administrative professionals and wanted to give back. Why not celebrate administrative professional week Monday, 4/24/17 – Friday, 4/28/17 at Ling & Louie’s and show your special employees how much you care and appreciate them!

While you’re at Ling & Louie’s in Boise or Scottsdale during the week of 4/24 – 4/28 just post your picture celebrating at Ling & Louie’s, use the hashtag #LLAdminWeek and you’ll receive a special bounce-back certificate. Plus you’ll be entered into our grand prize drawing: An office Happy Hour for up to 10 people! (a $200 value, to be announced Saturday, 4/29).

We have one of the best Happy Hours around that runs from 3pm-7pm Monday through Friday. Ling & Louie’s offers $3 off ALL signature cocktails such as Frozen Thai Mai and Ling’s Ginger-Lime Margarita; $2 off ALL glasses of wine; and $1 off ALL bottled and draft beer. You’ll also want to take advantage of our food specials during Happy Hour such as $7 Mongolian Flatbread and $5 Veggie Rolls.

Or how about lunch? While cards, flowers, and chocolates are nice, imagine how excited your administrative professional will be when they’re treated to one of our delicious appetizers such as Crab Wontons, Lettuce Wraps, or our Desert Island Poke Bowl? We have plenty of sushi options too along with soups and salads plus fresh items straight from the wok such as Orange Peel, Cashew Stir-Fry, and Kung POW!

You might be curious about the history of this holiday. It started due to a shortage of administrative professionals during World War II as a result of a declining birth rate after the Depression. The National Secretaries Association was founded in 1942 to recognize these administrative professionals and their contributions to the economy. After several name changes, the organization became the Administrative Professionals Day in 1998.

At Ling & Louie’s, we’re proud to help all of you hard-working professionals celebrate!

*contest at Scottsdale and Boise locations only.
