Stop and Smell the Rosé

The age of rosé is here and it’s here to stay. There was a time when the thought of drinking the sweet, fruity wine was unthinkable to the refined palate of a red or white wine veteran. But the times have changed and luckily everyone has come to their senses regarding the delightfully refreshing pink drink.

Pairing Rosé

While many people associate rosé with only spring and summer dishes, the right type can make a great pairing for all kinds of food year-round. There’s a great variety of flavors to be found within the rosé family of wines. Like any red or white wine, you can find varieties that are sweet and easy to enjoy by themselves or paired with food.

Rosé’s brisk acidity and modest alcoholic taste make it easy to pair with a great variety of food including spicy dishes, fish, chicken, steak—you name it. It’s all a matter of which you choose.

Rosé in Cocktails

Unlike its red and white brethren, rosé gets along well in many different cocktails. Because it’s sweet but not overpowering, it can be mixed with other sweet ingredients for a pleasantly sweet cocktail or a drier one, you know, if that’s what you’re into.

If you want to venture into the unknown and try mixing your own rosé cocktails, try using mixers that enhance the flavors of the wine. Citrus juices and soda water usually make good additions because of the acidity of the wine, but this also depends on how dry or sweet the rosé you’re working with is.
